This candle was named “Maya” in honour of Maya Angelou - one of the most important figures of the African American civil rights movement in the USA, followed by many more honorable milestones.
She’s the author of more than 30 books and the recipient of more than 50 honorary degrees. The first black woman to write a screenplay for a major film release, first female inaugural poet in U.S. presidential history and last but not least, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
A woman we admire to the core and a quote to remember: “I decided that my voice was so powerful that it could kill people.”
